    Course Overview

    The MSc in Information Systems Management (ISM) is a conversion programme that is designed with significant input from industry to enhance graduates employability which is demonstrated by an excellent employment record. Now, more than ever, we continue to witness the need for information systems across business and society. Yet, we live in a world that is in constant change and evolution of customer preferences and requirements. For organisations to be competitive nowadays, they must clearly understand and leverage new technological advancements to survive in a market. Therefore, the design, implementation, and management of information system is of central to how organisations successfully transform.

    This innovative programme is designed to offer a unique blend of core skills such as programming, databases, web technologies, user experience, cloud computing, security and management of information systems.  This programme provides a coherent set of contemporary technology management skills to meet the growing demand and expectations of industry which are essential to digitally transform modern organisations.

    Upon completion of the MSc. Information Systems Management, students will have acquired industry-standard skills and in-depth knowledge to:

    1. Apply effective decision making to global business problems.
    2. Identify, analyse and solve applied problems in individual- and team-based settings. 
    3. Synthesise, evaluate and critically analyse technology solutions within a global context.
    4. Employ appropriate strategies, tools, and technologies to develop and manage contemporary business information system solutions.
    5. Demonstrate awareness of socially responsible and ethical factors within information systems development and management.

    A range of assessment methods are integrated and assessed throughout the programme. These include essays, projects, reports, multiple choice quizzes, presentations, case studies and collaborative activities.

    Entry Requirements

    Normally a H2.1 degree (NFQ Level 8 or equivalent). However, candidates with a H2.2 honours degree and who have a minimum of 2 years relevant work experience will also be considered. IELTS score of 6.5 or equivalent, if applicable. Similar to any modern work environment, we welcome diverse academic backgrounds to apply for the programme and believe your experience will enrich the diversity of what this programme offers.

    There is also a major group project to be completed by the end of June. In teaching these subjects, a variety of sought-after technical skills ranging from programming, database design, business process modelling, usability/accessibility principles and software quality techniques are covered using leading-edge industry software.     Who is suited to this course

    One of the core strengths of the MSc in Information Systems Management (ISM) is that is caters for two broad applicant cohorts. On one hand, applicants may have a low level of technical experience who feel the need to expand their technical skills. The course offers up-to-date IT and computing knowledge to use within an organisational context. On the other hand, this course is also suited for those with a number of years technical experience but need to develop people and business skills to move towards consultancy or managerial roles.

    We have had and continue welcome graduates from all backgrounds: business, arts, science, engineering, and technology! Applicants bring their skills to the programme and leave with a wider skillset and toolset at their disposal.

    The Summer School will attract students for reasons best suited to their professional and personal aspirations at that time. The students undertaking this pathway will complete a Consultancy Project and Project Management and will choose between the following modules; Negotiations or International Human Resource Management. In the Consultancy Project module (20 ECTS) students will have the opportunity to investigate and diagnose ‘live business and management issues, to review and draw on best practice / academic literature, to further explore the issues, to collect and analyse relevant research data, derive logical conclusions and make recommendations.

    Course Overview

    The professionally accredited MSc in Human Resource Management (HRM) at University of Galway, is a one-year taught programme that is research-led and practice-driven.  Students will go beyond the traditional classroom by developing insights into new and emerging themes in HRM, based on sustainability, managing change and the employment relationship, ethics, business and society and analytics.  The programme is designed with a focus on decent work and leadership of self and others, and building professional and academic competencies such as critical thinking and business and people development skills.

    We have designed the programme such that students can pursue one of two pathways; an Internship or the Summer School, thus allowing students to gear their Masters towards their own particular interests and focused career path. This personalisation of the Masters offers students an opportunity to tailor the programme to suit their aspirations and ambitions in the way that best suits them.

    The programme covers: HRM in Practice, Employment Relations and Law, Sustainable HRM, Business and Society, Critical Thinking and Analytical Skills, Business and Professional Development Skills, Leading Change and Business Transformation, Business Negotiations, International HRM and Project Management.

    This is one of very few CIPD accredited MSc. Programmes in Ireland, that offers an Internship and Summer School pathway.  Both pathways require the student to undertake an applied project, where students will get to tackle a real business problem and develop suitable recommendations.

    Internship Opportunity

    Students have the option to pursue an internship opportunity incorporating an Applied Management Report. The internship gives students an edge in the job market on completion of their programme. Most of our students are offered graduate roles by their internship organisation on completion of their course. 

    CIPD Accredited

    The MSc (Human Resource Management) is approved by the Chartered Institute of Personnel Development (CIPD) for accreditation at the advanced level. Students on this programme can achieve Associate Membership of CIPD. After graduation, as they build professional experience, they can progress through the professional stages of CIPD membership from Chartered Member to Chartered Fellow. 

    Alignment with the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM)

    We are delighted to announce that the MSc Human Resource Management programme has achieved alignment with the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM). It is the third programme in Ireland and among the first 10 in Europe to have achieved this recognition.

    Student of the Year Award for MSc (Human Resource Management) This prize will be awarded annually. The prize will be awarded to the student who receives the highest overall aggregate mark in the examinations of the MSc in Human Resource Management programme.  In the event of a tie, the prize will be divided equally.
