    International & European Studies: Winter School on European Politics and Economy

    About

    Study Europe and the EU at one of Germany's top universities: the University of Tübingen! The International & European Studies (IES) winter school offers seminars on European politics and economy as well as courses on German language and intercultural competence. Academic courses (taught in English): The European Union – Institutions, Politics, and History: This course will introduce students to the EU as a political system, characterised by the principal of the separation of powers. Students will learn about the significant executive, legislative, and judicial powers of the EU, and the course will also cover how policies are made in this unique multi-layered system of governance. Regional Economic Integration – the Case of the European Union: After a brief introduction to the topic of international business, students will learn about trade and trade restriction mechanisms. Afterwards, a focus will be placed on regional economic integration and its effects on doing business, with the European Union as the example of the highest level of integration. Study trips: Strasbourg: European Parliament (one day) Berlin: historic centre and government district (three days) German language course: Conversation, writing, reading, grammar at different levels of proficiency (A1–B2) (Participants do not have to have any prior knowledge of German.) Intercultural workshop: Intercultural communication, reflection on study abroad experience and learning process Buddy programme: Students from the University of Tübingen support the IES participants before and during their stay in Tübingen. The buddy programme promotes intercultural exchange and will allow participants to get to know German student life first-hand.
