In 1991, the\nFaculty of Architecture and Design was established at the University of Petra\nwith two departments: Architecture and Interior Design. The Graphic Design\nDepartment was added in 2003, the Amination and Multimedia Department was added\nin 2016, and recently in 2022, Digital Film Design Technology Department was\nadded. The study plan is based on the system of credit hours and semesters. The\nFaculty offers the Bachelor's Degree in the five majors.
Due to the great importance of the\ninfrastructure and equipment needed for teaching the theoretical and practical\nacademic requirements of the five specializations, the Faculty has provided a\nlaboratory for learning resources to help students study, in addition to 23\nstudios, seven computer labs, an acoustics lab, a silkscreen lab, a ceramics\nworkshop, a photography lab and a model making lab, a large studio for fine\narts, a carpentry and metal workshop and a permanent exhibition hall for\nstudents' projects.
The Faculty encourages the teaching staff\ntowards scientific research including attending international conferences. It\nalso offers scholarships to distinguished graduates for further studies in\ndistinguish universities internationally. The Faculty has been engaged in\ninternational research projects with UCL, Oxford, Reading, Berlin and Brighton\nuniversities to name a few, and received the Newton Fund Prize 2020, another\ntestament to the commitment we show to our work. Also, students from the five\ndepartments have constantly won national and international prizes, which also\nindicates the high standards held at our university.
The Faculty is open to the local community\nthrough students' projects that are mainly related to are directed to satisfy\nthe present and futuristic needs and aspirations of the society. It\nalso forms assessment committees (Juries) composed of highly specialized people\nin their fields, from within and outside the Faculty to evaluate students'\nproposed projects objectively and impartially.
The Faculty holds art exhibitions for its\nstudents, academic members reflecting their diverse schools of art. This would\npresent a clear picture of the cultural variety and the artistic richness of\nthe Faculty.
