    Our NAATI endorsed program will further develop your skills in translation between English & another language. This can be applied to almost any field in the fields of literary and technical translation.

    Our program will open many doors to diverse careers in a range of different fields. This includes:

    You will undertake a translation project under the supervision of a specialist staff member.

    Our program provides you with advanced knowledge and skills in the practice of translation informed by current theory. It will include a unique focus on the application of machine translation and digital resources. You will explore:

    Requirements

    Entry Requirements

    The Master of Translation Studies is an 80 unit postgraduate qualification.

    All applicants are required to have proficiency in English and another language.

    Each applicant is required to submit a short statement that describes her/his/their academic background, motivation for applying to the programme, and future career goals (maximum 400 words). This personal statement must be written in both English and another language of the applicant’s choice.

    Eligibility

    Applicants must hold a:

    • Bachelor degree in a relevant field with at least 1 year of relevant work experience OR
    • Bachelor degree with a major in a relevant field with at least 1 year of relevant work experience OR
    • A 4-year Bachelor degree in a relevant field OR
    • A Bachelor Honours Degree in a relevant field OR
    • A Bachelor degree and a Diploma in Languages

    Relevant discipline areas include linguistics, TESOL and Modern Languages (e.g., French, German, Japanese, Chinese, Scandinavian languages) and Ancient/Classical Languages (Latin, Ancient Greek), and Business and/or Law (tourism).

    Relevant work experience may include working for an organisation or government agency as a translator; as a freelance translator; an interpreter for health or education sectors; a TESOL instructor/tutor or a language instructor/tutor (in a language other than English).

    For non-anglophone international students, relevant discipline areas include English.

    All Applicants must satisfy an English Language Proficiency Standard equivalent to:

    • Have an IELTS overall score of at least 6.5 and reading/writing (R, W) scores of at least 6.5 or equivalent in other tests,
    • Have an advanced level in a second language in reading and writing corresponding to the Level B2/C1 in the Common European Framework (or equivalent).
    • For non-native speakers of the language other than English, this proficiency can be demonstrated by scores in internationally recognised tests (like level 6 in HSK for Chinese, DALF for French, etc.)
