    About

    The aim of the course is to develop your knowledge and technical skills in order to meet the safety, legislative and industry demands that go along with working with land-based machines and equipment.

    It covers engine technologies and systems and develops maintenance and repair skills, as well as introducing you to the machinery you'd use in ground and grass care.

    It also provides some general skills you'll be able to take into any work environment, like health and safety knowledge and communications.

    A blend of hands-on learning, real-life work experience and classroom teaching gives you the theoretical knowledge and practical skills you need to find work in the land-based sector or to develop your career.  

    Over the duration of the 33 weeks, you will enjoy a challenging and innovative course.

    This is a course where you will need prove a high level of determination, motivation and a drive to succeed from the beginning to end. You will be expected to work to deadlines like those you will face in industry. You will work along with a teaching team that are hugely experienced in their field, all coming from an industry background.

    Land-based engineering is a career for anyone with interests in machines, how they work, an urge to learn practical skills and a fascination with new technology.

    This course covers a range of topics, including engine technology and repair, electrics, welding and mechanical transmission. 

    It also looks at hydraulic systems, brakes, steering and traction and workshop processes. 

    You'll learn about general ground care and grass maintenance machinery, as well as developing your knowledge of health and safety and the environment, communications and maths. 

    The course also includes a work experience section in a real-life working environment.

    Requirements

    Entry Requirements

    You'll need a minimum of 2 National 4s and 2 National 5s including English and Maths or have successfully completed the NC Land-based Engineering: An Introduction course.
