    Overview

    This Postgraduate Certificate in Aeromedical Retrieval and Transport (PGCertAeroRT) course provides a comprehensive body of knowledge in aeromedical transport to medical practitioners currently practising in the field. The core curriculum is based on knowledge of the operational, clinical and organisational components of aeromedical transport. It is intended for those who want to upskill their air ambulance competencies but who do not wish to proceed with the full Diploma.

    The course is intended to cover the specific operational and clinical aspects of air ambulance and assistance medicine.

    The PGCertAeroRT is available through Distance Learning.

    Regulations for the Postgraduate Certificate in Aeromedical Retrieval and Transport (PGCertAeroRT)

    1. Admission to the Programme

      1. Admission to the programme shall be subject to the approval of the Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Health Sciences).
      2. Every applicant shall have been admitted to the degrees of Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery of a university in New Zealand or hold an equivalent medical qualification approved by the Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Health Sciences).

    2. Structure of the Programme

      The programme shall consist of two papers in Aeromedical Retrieval and Transport, AVME 717 and AVME 718.

    3. Duration of the Programme

      The minimum time in which a candidate may complete the certificate is one year of half-time study, and the maximum time is three years from commencing study.

    4. Variations

      The Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Health Sciences) may in exceptional circumstances approve a course of study which does not comply with these regulations.

    Requirements

    Entry Requirements

    Entrance requirements for postgraduate study vary by programme with most requiring a minimum bachelor-level qualification in the same field, and some having additional requirements such as relevant work experience and/or professional registration in New Zealand. 

    A postgraduate certificate or postgraduate diploma can usually be taken at any time after the completion of your bachelor's degree.

    If you hold an honours degree or postgraduate diploma you may be able to eligible for master’s study by thesis only. In some cases if you hold a bachelor’s degree you may apply for a coursework master’s degree or for master’s study by coursework and thesis.

    To study a PhD you usually require the completion of a master’s degree, or a first-class or upper second-class honours degree in the same area of study, or a related discipline, as your intended area of research.
