Structured Clinical Care for Individuals with Personality Difficulties and Disorders

Personality disorder is present in over 4% of the UK population, with borderline personality disorder being present in just under 1% of the population, and is the most common personality disorder seen in clinical practice. People with personality difficulties and disorders have sometimes been excluded from any health or social care services because of their diagnosis. The award has been developed in response to the identified need of clinical staff with respect to working with these groups of people. The award facilitates the promotion and development of the knowledge and confidence needed by clinicians to offer structured care that improves outcomes for people with personality impairment.

• Understanding the key characteristics of personality disorders in general and borderline personality disorder specifically.
• The therapeutic alliance
• Assessment strategies with individuals with personality impairment
• Risk assessment and positive risk management
• Specific collaborative interventions for borderline personality

You learn through workshops, role-play activities, video demonstrations and self-directed learning. Your learning will be enhanced through e-learning@tees Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) via virtual discussions and blogs.
