Arriving in Southern Cyprus

Upon arriving in Cyprus, international students have to bring some amount of money of EUR 1700 at minimum, in order to pay for multiple expenses: Goods, accommodation, tuition fees... as soon as they step in Cyprus.

Opening a bank account

The Immigration Office responsible for international students requires them to open a bank account while studying in Cyprus by depositing the minimum amount of EUR 900 for the first week after arrival.

Required documents:

• Passport
• Verified housing contract
• Original University Confirmation letter of Registration (provided by the University after registration of courses)

The Accommodation Office is the only directorate responsible for guiding international students upon arrival towards suitable accommodation either in on campus, or out of campus, also the office will arrange for temporary accommodation.

The Office must be informed 48 hours in previous, to arrange for temporary accommodation to stay for a short period of time in advance so that they can select between the many options of permanent staying  while studying in South Cyprus.

The languages spoken in Cyprus are English in the first place, French and German. The majority of Greek- Cypriots are Greek-Orthodox Christians, followed by Armenians, Maronites and Roman-Catholics.

Transportation system

Buses are the main transportation system in South Cyprus. Bus routes are found at South Cyprus’ buses, and students can buy tickets designed for them to be paid at lower prices. In addition, Taxis are more expensive than buses the fare of which starts from EUR 6.

Internet and Phones

The best internet system in South Cyprus is Cosmos Wireless which is provided via ADSL. Including telephone, internet and TV which are available in Cyprus purchased at good prices; where South Cyprus Telecommunication Authority and Prime Tel are the famous companies for releasing out services in the island.
